2 MB is a common limit for legal filings, business email attachments, and many upload portals. Most multi-page documents can reach this target with reasonable quality.

The tool tries progressively stronger compression and stops when the result is at or below 2 MB.

Compression rebuilds each page as an image. Selectable text, links, forms, annotations, and layers will be flattened. Reaching exactly 2 MB is not guaranteed.

How to compress a PDF to 2 MB

    1. Select one PDF. The document stays on your device while your browser reads it.
    2. Choose Compress toward 2 MB. The tool tries several compression levels and stops after the first result that reaches the target.
    3. Review the actual size and pages. Download the result, check important details, and compare it with the upload portal's current requirements.

When a 2 MB PDF is useful

A 2 MB target is one of the most common file size limits for legal filings, court submissions, business email, and commercial upload portals. It is more generous than the tighter 100 KB or 500 KB tiers, so most multi-page PDFs can reach it while keeping text, signatures, and images readable.

Even so, it is not possible to guarantee that every PDF can reach this size. Very long documents, high-resolution scans, or image-heavy portfolios may remain above 2 MB. This page reports the actual output instead of claiming a target that was not achieved.

    Compress legal and court documents

Many court e-filing systems set a per-document limit of 2 MB or similar. After compression, check that party names, case numbers, dates, signatures, stamps, and exhibit labels remain clear. If only selected pages or exhibits are required, use Extract PDF pages before compression to reduce the source file.

Keep the original PDF. Target compression rebuilds pages as images, so selectable text, hyperlinks, and form fields are flattened. When the court requires searchable text, check whether the compressed version still meets the filing rules.

    Prepare business documents for email

Many corporate email systems limit attachments to 10-25 MB total, but individual documents are often expected to stay under 2 MB for fast delivery and compatibility. Proposals, reports, contracts, and presentations with moderate page counts and images can usually reach 2 MB without significant quality loss.

    How target compression works

The browser renders each PDF page as a compressed image, creates a new PDF, and measures the output. If the first attempt remains above 2 MB, the tool tries stronger settings. Files already at or below 2 MB are kept unchanged.

    Privacy and file safety

Your PDF stays in your browser. PDF.js renders the pages locally and pdf-lib creates the new file on your device. PDF2atom does not upload, store, inspect, or analyze your document, and it adds no watermark.

    Frequently asked questions

Can every PDF be compressed to exactly 2 MB?

No. The achievable size depends on page count, images, scan quality, and document detail. The tool tries several levels and reports the actual result.

Is 2 MB a common upload limit?

Yes. Many court e-filing systems, corporate portals, and business email servers use a 2 MB per-document limit or similar threshold.

What if the result is still above 2 MB?

The tool returns the smallest result and clearly reports that the target was missed. Removing unnecessary pages or splitting the document may help.

Are my documents uploaded while compressing?

No. Rendering and compression happen locally in your browser. PDF2atom does not receive or store the PDF.

Will selectable text and links remain?

No. Target compression rebuilds pages as images, so text, links, forms, annotations, and layers are flattened.

Does the output include a watermark?

No. PDF2atom adds no watermark or branding to the downloaded PDF.
