Token estimation
The tool estimates tokens using a simple rule of thumb (~4 characters per token for English text). Most AI models today support context windows of 100K tokens or more, so a typical multi-page PDF fits comfortably. The estimate helps you check before pasting — if a document is very long, consider splitting it into sections.
Privacy and file safety
Your PDF stays in your browser. Text extraction runs locally with PDF.js. PDF2atom does not upload, store, or analyze your document. When you paste the prompt into an external AI service, that service's privacy policy applies to the text you share.

No. The tool only extracts text in your browser. The text is only shared with an AI service when you choose to paste it there yourself.
What is the maximum PDF size?
There is no hard limit, but very large files (50MB+) may be slow. For AI prompts, shorter, focused documents usually work better.
Does this work with scanned PDFs?
Only if the PDF already has a searchable text layer. Scanned image-only PDFs need OCR, which is not yet available in this tool.
