Privacy Policy

1. The most important thing first

Your PDF files never leave your browser. All PDF tools on this site process files entirely on your device using JavaScript libraries (such as pdf-lib, pdf.js, and tesseract.js). There is no upload, no server-side processing, no temporary storage of your files anywhere.

You can verify this by opening your browser's DevTools, selecting the "Network" tab, and observing during file processing — no file content is transmitted from your device.

2. Current analytics and advertising status

At this stage, PDF2atom does not require an account and does not run file uploads. Advertising is prepared in the site code but only renders after Google AdSense is approved and the required consent setup is enabled. Where consent is required by law, non-essential analytics or advertising cookies must not be used before consent.

3. What information we do collect

While your files stay on your device, we do collect limited information about your visit to the site, in order to run and improve it:

  • Anonymous analytics data via privacy-friendly analytics and, if enabled, Google Analytics 4 — including the pages you visit, your approximate region (country level), your device type (desktop/mobile), your browser, and the referring site. We do not use this data to read or infer the contents of your files.
  • Cookies for advertising served by Google AdSense when advertising is enabled — see Section 6.
  • Server logs from our hosting providers (Cloudflare Pages, Vercel, Netlify) — these are kept for short periods for security and operational purposes and are not analyzed for user profiling.

4. What we do NOT collect

  • We do not collect, store, or analyze the contents of any PDF or file you process.
  • We do not require account signup, so we do not have your email, name, or password.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share user data with third parties (we have nothing to sell).
  • We do not use fingerprinting libraries or shadow tracking.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We and our service providers use them for the following purposes:

  • Strictly necessary — preference cookies for things like your language choice or cookie consent decision.
  • Analytics — Google Analytics 4 cookies (_ga, _ga_*) to count visits and understand traffic patterns. These are only set only after you grant analytics consent where required by law.
  • Advertising — Google AdSense cookies (NID, __gads, __gpi, IDE) for ad serving, frequency capping, and (where allowed) personalized advertising. These are only set after you grant advertising consent in regions where consent is required.

You can manage cookies at any time through your browser settings. Where a consent banner or Google-certified consent management platform is shown, you can also use it to change your choices.

6. Advertising (Google AdSense)

We may use Google AdSense to display ads on the site after approval. When enabled, AdSense and its partners may:

  • Use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other sites.
  • Display personalized ads where you have consented, or contextual (non-personalized) ads where you have not.
  • Collect technical information such as your device type, ad interaction, and approximate location to measure ad performance.

Google uses this data under their own privacy policy: Google Ads & Privacy. You can opt out of personalized ads in Google's Ad Settings.

Advertisements never have access to your PDF files. Ads are placed in fixed slots on the page and do not interact with the in-browser PDF processing.

7. Consent Mode and EEA / UK / Switzerland visitors

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we will use Google's required consent setup before enabling Google advertising cookies. Where Google requires a certified consent management platform, ads will not be enabled until that platform is configured. Consent choices may cover:

  • analytics_storage (Google Analytics)
  • ad_storage (advertising cookies)
  • ad_user_data (sending user data for advertising)
  • ad_personalization (personalized ads)

Until the required consent is granted, non-essential analytics and advertising storage should remain disabled in regions where consent is required.

8. Your rights (GDPR, CCPA, and similar)

Depending on your region, you have rights regarding the personal data we hold. Because we do not collect personally identifying information (no signup, no contact form storage), the practical scope is limited, but you may:

  • Request information about what data we hold about you.
  • Request deletion of any cookie-based data tied to you (you can also delete cookies directly in your browser at any time).
  • Withdraw consent for analytics or advertising cookies.
  • Opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (CCPA) — note we do not sell personal information; advertising cookies may be considered "sharing" under CCPA, which our consent banner controls.

To exercise these rights, contact us via the Contact page.

9. Children's privacy

PDF2atom is a general-audience site. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided information that should be removed, please contact us.

10. Third-party services we may use

  • Cloudflare Pages, Vercel, Netlify — static site hosting
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics — privacy-friendly traffic analytics (no cookies, no fingerprinting)
  • Google Analytics 4 — site usage analytics (cookie-based, consent required in EEA/UK/CH)
  • Google AdSense — advertising (consent required in EEA/UK/CH)
  • Google-certified consent management platform — consent choices for regions where required

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top, and (when significant) in a notice on the homepage.
