How to sign a PDF online
- Select your PDF. The file is read locally in your browser and never uploaded to PDF2atom.
- Create your signature. Choose from three methods: draw freehand on the canvas, type your name in a cursive font, or upload a signature image (PNG with transparent background works best).
- Pick the page. Select which page the signature should appear on.
- Sign and download. Click "Sign PDF" to embed your signature onto the page, then download the signed document.
Three ways to sign
Draw — Use your mouse, trackpad, or touchscreen to draw your signature freehand. The canvas is pressure-free and smooth, so a steady hand produces the best results.
Upload — Take a photo of your signature on white paper, or use a scanned signature image. PNG with a transparent background gives the cleanest look on any document.
Type — Type your name and choose from cursive, serif, or sans-serif font styles. The text is rendered as an image and embedded just like a hand-drawn signature.
Where the signature is placed
The signature is placed in the bottom-right area of the selected page, sized to about 30% of the page width. This placement works well for most standard documents, letters, and forms. For documents that need a specific signature field location, the signature can be positioned on any page you select.
Use cases
- Sign contracts, agreements, and offer letters.
- Add signature to invoices, purchase orders, and receipts.
- Sign permission slips, forms, and applications.
- Pre-sign templates for repeated use.
- Use with Merge PDF to combine signed documents into one file.
Privacy & Security
Your PDF and signature stay in your browser. All processing happens locally using pdf-lib. PDF2atom does not upload, store, or inspect your document or signature. No server-side processing, no third-party access.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded when I sign it?
No. The signature is embedded into your PDF entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. PDF2atom does not receive your document or your signature.
Is this an electronic signature or a digital signature?
This tool adds a visual signature image to your PDF page — it is an electronic signature. It does not create a cryptographic digital signature or certificate-based signature. For legally binding digital signatures, use a certified e-signature platform.
Can I place the signature anywhere on the page?
The signature is placed in the bottom-right area of the page by default (common for most documents). You can select which page it appears on from the page dropdown.
What image format works best for an uploaded signature?
PNG with a transparent background produces the cleanest result. JPG also works but may show a white rectangle behind the signature.
Can I sign multiple pages at once?
This tool signs one page at a time. To sign multiple pages, sign the first page, download the result, then re-upload and sign the next page.
Does this work on password-protected PDFs?
Password-locked PDFs must be unlocked first using the password you know. PDF2atom does not bypass or crack passwords.
